Say Goodbye to Online Privacy!

Well folks, bad news! Your online privacy is about to end. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) reviewed its Whois policy in Dec of 2011. The Whois review team recommendations are “Say goodbye to online privacy” they found that over 22 million .com Whois records were so false that they could not contact the owner using the current Whois records, this stat right here is the main reason big changes are coming. We looked at the 92 page report and include a few of their findings and recommendations below…WOW!

#16. For the avoidance of doubt, the WHOIS Policy, referred to in Recommendation 1 above (Below is recomendation1) , should include an affirmative statement that clarifies that a proxy means a relationship in which the Registrant is acting on behalf of another. The WHOIS data is that of the agent, and the agent alone obtains all rights and assumes all responsibility for the domain name and its manner of use. (eDotNews…This would most likly end private registrations)

Recommendation 1. ICANN’s WHOIS policy is poorly defined and decentralized The ICANN Board should oversee the creation of a single WHOIS policy document, and reference it in subsequent versions of agreements with Contracted Parties. In doing so, ICANN should clearly document the current gTLD WHOIS policy as set out in the gTLD Registry and Registrar contracts and GNSO Consensus Policies and Procedure

Data Accuracy

The NORC WHOIS Data Accuracy Study 2009/10 found that over 20% of gTLD WHOIS data was so inaccurate that it was impossible to reach the registrant in any way. In numbers, this translates to over 20,000,000 registrations in .com alone. Whilst the WHOIS Review Team in general would like to see a higher level of accuracy throughout the system, it is unacceptable to have such a high percentage with obviously inaccurate data, and particularly domain names where the registrant should not be contacted at all. We have suggested goals for the improvement of the data, and the contact-ability of these registrants. We would very much like to see ICANN address the concern that nothing is being done.

Its really sad that some people choose crime as their business on the internet from the spammers to the scammers is the reason the Internet will become censored by government and a certain search engine company will soon rule the internet and they will TRACK everything you do on the internet. Say good bye to your online privacy.
